I met Rod several years ago when he described how he transformed Blue Cross Blue Shield into an agile organization. Yes, the entire organization. I was intrigued by this as Rod was not a technologist immersed in agile methods like sprints and chickens and pigs. Rather he recognized that the principles of trust and self-directed teams were the key to innovation and operational excellence in changing environments.
